R222 explorer front fish boxes getting wet

I found the source of water in the front fish boxes. In my case, rain water is getting in the anchor storage. I pulled the anchor and rope out, to find the construction inside the storage compartment incomplete. There was no fiberglass in one corner, leaving a small gap. The water drains right down through the gap, into the boat. Then drips on to the plywood that supports the casting platform. Then it drips of the plywood into the fish box. The plywood in saturated. I am sure the plywood is pressure treated, but it has been getting wet for a year. I am now wondering if the plywood will rot I will try to reach out to the dealer tomorrow

    Yamaha Fuel Water Separating Filter

Ha, not at all haz! You're right, still have 4 years left on the warranty so I need to remain cognizant. Always appreciate the input.

Sorry AO, didn't mean to double your investment. Good luck!

    Yamaha Fuel Water Separating Filter

Same here, always change filters and add a fuel additive regularly. I'm lucky enough to have a non-ethanol gas station near where I store the boat. So it's probably not as big a deal in my situation. Even without ethanol, there's always that slim chance water will work it's way into the tank whether being from condensation, a faulty seal, bad gas, etc. I've installed one before on a 3.0 mercruiser I had a while back. Like you said, it's nice having that extra piece of mind.

Thanks haz. Just ordered one. Guess I'll keep the other as a spare.

    Yamaha Fuel Water Separating Filter

Strange that Mercury doesn't include a filter. Having lost an inboard to ethanol on my previous boat I'm now religious about using an ethanol treatment to reduce water issues and depend on my water separator to ensure I don't lose another engine. Shoot, I'd probably buy an octane gauge if I lost another engine to ethanol/water problems. I do change the filter regularly and no, it's not cheap, but it provides some piece of mind knowing it's there doing it's job. The closest non-ethanol gasoline marina is about 40 miles away by boat. If it was closer, I'd probably use it, but the 80 mile round trip is too far.

    Yamaha Fuel Water Separating Filter

AO: You selected Mercury when you ordered your R207, so you will likely want to select Mercury's external water separator for brand consistency and to avoid any potential Mercury warranty complication. Good luck!

I took delivery of my R207 in February and, yes, it did come with the separator.

This discussion regarding this Mercury-branded external water separating filter examines Mercury's corporate filtering perspective versus boat owners' external filtering preference. Good luck!

    R180 in garage

Hello Everyone, Click links below to see R180 in a standard 2 car garage. Tightest point is height with 7ft garage door opening. Trailer bunks were lowered and foldable windshield stopper was removed. Compass is 1in from hitting. Engine must also be lowered to certain point. No modification to wheels or tires necessary. Plenty of space front and back for longer boat if height was equal or lesser. My neighbor has 21ft Sea Ray cruiser in exact same garage. Now I also use a lower hitch so I can tow it about 80% into garage and manually push/turn it for the last 20% of the boat length. Hope this helps. PS - Next boat will hopefully be a fully equipped R222 w/250. Not sure how I'll resolve storage when the time comes. :-) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1alY97lvVyB160PbzRJ56280llb4lKBK-/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o0AHaLYB2clRWH-5Wln_I_g6CfDhwfIk/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1j72TPvPsf4cKIlBjm2LdLGX8Kdu8bgwq/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RrNNmDWY-MRVss3ggjjJP7AaLU5XcM-s/view?usp=drivesdk

    Yamaha Fuel Water Separating Filter

My R207 did not come with a fuel water separator filter. When I purchased the boat last year, the dealer told me it came standard from the factory. I didn't spot it before, but thought it must be well hidden in the bilge like it was on my proline. Well, cleaned out the bilge today and looked to see what filter I needed for a replacement. Followed the fuel line and there just isn't one. Turns out that the filters do not come with the merc 150s. It has a fuel filter under the cowling, but no fuel water separator filter. I'll be installing a kit this week. It's an easy job, but a little frustrating that my dealer told me there was one. No way I'm going out again without one.

    e box cost

A $100 miss on the shipping cost estimate is unacceptable and the dealer should provide you evidence of the UPS charges and fully explain if any 'handling' charges were added by Robalo and/or the dealer to get to the $156 total shipping charge. Because they misinformed you on the shipping costs and you purchased your R202 from them, I believe the dealership should absorb at least some of the shipping cost overage. The only way $156 makes sense is if the dealer is located outside of the USA, but even then -- you were significantly misinformed on the total purchase cost by the dealer. Good luck!

    e box cost

the box was shipped in a cardboard box by UPS. I did discuss shipping was told it would be about $50. the hardware was suppose to be in the box with the ebox. I am not questioning the price I was aware and agreed to it. It just seemsa excessive and I think when I told the dealer the hardware was not shipped they would have been more helpful. It is what it is. I'm over it just was curious what other people thought

    e box cost

I wasn't aware Robalo offered aluminum electronics boxes, but this online photo of the box on a 2018 R202 EX clearly shows welded side panels and corner-to-corner creases in the box's floor for improved rigidity. Perhaps Coyote Manufacturing is producing them for Robalo? The $500 e-box pricing seems fair, when compared to the factory-option cost shown on Robalo's R202 Boat Builder page under Towers & Canvas. The $156 shipping seems high at first, but several factors could be influencing that cost. The e-box is aluminum and not extremely heavy, but it is quite large, maybe 10" high x 18" deep x 36" wide? Was it double-boxed or crated in wood to protect against shipping damage, which would enlarge the package and may incur a shipping cost surcharge? Was it shipped USPS, UPS, FedEx, by common carrier truck -- or did Robalo's boat hauler drop it off when running between two other dealers, without dropping a boat at your dealer? Is your dealer extremely far away from the e-box's point-of-origin? Was the shipping cost discussed with you before the e-box was ordered, or was it sprung on you once the e-box arrived? Your frustration with waiting for hardware is understandable, and it would be useful to know if the dealer neglected to request the hardware in their original order, or, if Robalo's parts operation -- or the e-box supplier -- forgot to include the hardware in the shipment. Whomever made the mistake, that excluded the hardware, should be paying express shipping to get those items to you ASAP. In this day and age, ten days is definitely an unreasonable amount of time to make you wait for the hardware. Good luck!

    e box cost

I ordered an E-Box for my 2017 200es they charged me $500 plus tax and then added $156 for shipping to their facility. When I got it it was missing the hardware so I called the dealer who told me I was wrong. After getting the owner on phone and him talking to mechanic they agreed I was right. You would think after almost $48,000 invested they would treat me better. Does anyone else thing the shipping charge was excessive. I mean after all it an aluminum box and it cost me almost $700 and now I got to wait 10 days to get the hardware.

    No R272 Owners Manual

Likewise, I'm hoping the same for your boat handling abilities versus actually READING what you find on the internet. If you'll actually read the documents you sent me the links to, you'll find that Robalo does indeed list the R272 in the "table of contents" of the online manual but nothing else directly related to the R272. Rather than spend a lot of time with you on this (in lieu of someone that can actually help me), take a look at the exchange below I've had with the local dealer about this subject. If you'll look at the attachment you sent me, you'll see that Robalo has added the R272 to the list of the models covered by the manual (page i). Unfortunately, nothing else in the manual changed. In other words, no actual information related specifically to the R272 is included. If you'll take a look at page 35, the individual model information starts here with the R160. The following pages detail the information on the other models listed on page i. That is except for the R272. On page 42, details on the R242EX are provided. The R272 model information should follow next. Instead, the R242EX is followed by the R302 completely omitting the R272. Additionally, starting on page 60, Specifications & Capacities are provided for each model. That is except for the R272 (which should be on page 61). Instead, page 61 is reserved for the R302 which is apparently "pending approval" (I can't imagine the anger of those owners). Again, the R272 Specifications & Capacities information is nowhere to be found. I understand that the R272 is a new model but I find it extremely odd that this model would have been produced without any documentation for the owners. DC

    No R272 Owners Manual

Hopefully you're better at handling a boat than you are in navigating the internet. It took me about 1 1/2 minutes to find it. Robalo doesn't have model specific manuals. Manuals are by type - Bay Boats, Center Consoles, Dual Console, and Walkarounds. Your boat is a center console. http://robalo.com/admin/Document-Depot.php?action=owners_manuals This is the manual: http://robalo.com/publications/uploaded_files/2113/Robalo-Center-Console-Owner-s-Manual.pdf

    No R272 Owners Manual

I just bought the new model R272 and was amazed to find that not only does Robalo NOT provide an owners manual (they refer you to their website to download it) but the website has no mention of the R272. I can't believe that a new model was released for purchase before an owners manual was produced for it. What is management thinking? Not about their customers, obviously! When will the R272 owners manual be added to the website? DC

    Battery Switch Problems

Similar issue for me. Brand new 2018 207Ex. Second time out my engine would not start in 1 or 2 position. Could only start it by switching to both batteries, which is far from ideal due to the risk of over amperage. Dealer found that my revised switch was bad, along with a loose starter relay ground. Several times since then I could only start my Merc after rotating the dial several times. Then it worked normally. Have a new Perko sitting around and would use that except it is the old style and much larger than these small profile switches. Not enough room to mount it. May just have to buy a new style Perko instead.
